🤹🏽♀️Dynamic groups empower both learner and facilitator to access creativity, engagement and interaction to make learning easy and fun. Coined by permaculture pioneer, Robin Clayfield, dynamic groups access the full spectrum of a learners abilities; helping them be relaxed and inspired, and bringing deeper engagement and embodiment with content and creativity.
Here are some insights to how dynamic groups work:
🌀DIVERSE LEARNING STYLES - The diversity of individuals in a group brings a diversity of learning styles. Visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, and oral are the base learning approaches we naturally work with. Integrating and valuing visual, kinaesthetic, oral and auditory elements in group sessions taps into more ‘edge’ of engagement; drawing-out the renewable resource of creativity and collective wisdom.
👯CREATIVE PROCESSES - Colour, pattern, song, and play are aspects of a ‘polyculture’ of creative process providing deeper engagement with learning. Most of us know ‘death by powerpoint’. The creative art of adapting the one-dimensional presentation to a more enticing 3D interactive approach yields more excitement and familiarity with information and concepts. For example, card games help learners connect with information creatively. They can provide each concept as an image, a written definition, and an example on separate shuffled cards. Sorting the matching cards asks participants to find the patterns within the details; using their ability of interactive deduction and group collaboration.
🌟Some of the more common dynamic groups processes include:
- Mind-map brainstorming (mycelial patterning to condense ideas in an easy-to-navigate form)
- World Cafe (small groups rotate around ‘stations’ to brainstorm insights to key questions)
- Paired-sharing (connection in pairs creates more edge in interaction)
Social permaculture is regenerative social design. It applies the nature-informed principles of permaculture to create and accelerate people care for the individual and collective.
