‘Living systems’ are the language of life. Open and self-organising, they contain elements that interact with each other and their surrounding environment, through flow of energy and information.
People and people systems are living entities upon which social permaculture design applies a biomimicry of living systems principles.
INPUTS & OUTPUTS • Individually, we each have inputs (needs), and outputs (contribution). Our inputs and outputs range from the physical, emotional, relational, creative, spiritual, financial, social (and beyond). Each input funnels toward a transformation process enacted by us, consciously or unconsciously; producing outputs and contributions to the environment around us.
Equally, groups and organisations interact in a similar way Same goes for teams within organisations, and meetings within teams.
Analysis of the inputs and outputs of an individual / a group / a team / a meeting, takes stock of resources and accounts for deficiency.
CYCLES & PATTERNS • Embedded in the living world are cycles and patterns governing the flow of inputs and outputs. Pattern and cycle literacy, both for the individual and collective, supports us to coordinate flow of energy and matter effectively and appropriately. For example, creating network in a mycelial web formation allows effective flow of information and energy between localised groups over vast geographic areas. Yearly intentions can be set with the Winter Solstice, and monthly intentions with the new moon: presenting nested time-markers to orient ourselves with intention and review.
(RE)GENERATIVE • Life, death and rebirth cycles contribute to the nurturing and continuation of life. Individually we experience different stages of being. Same for our relationships, organisations and communities. Energy and information flow help generate the next stage; avoiding wasted learnings, lessons and wisdoms.
Social permaculture is regenerative social design. It applies the nature-informed principles of permaculture to create and accelerate people care for the individual and collective.
