“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”
~ Alan Watts
Being adaptive is an essential part of the human experience. How we do the adapting makes all the difference. Permaculture urges us to “creatively use and respond to change”. This gives us a BIG clue as to the way of nature wisdom.
Having holistic life skills to help make the most of life’s twirly whirly curve balls while living our best life is something we can do now to help us develop those dance moves.
I get it. It’s NOT easy to find this type of holistic support from someone who speaks your language.
So if you’re needing someone to hear you in your situation, share relevant ideas from a nature wisdom angle, and support you to creatively dance through life’s changes, I’d love to help.
It’s my deep profound pleasure to contribute in this way.
You can even DM me now to book a free explore call about what life & leadership coaching with me could mean to you.
And in the meantime, enjoy the plunge into the seas of change and dance on friends👩🏽🎤✨
Life is not, and never will be, all flower petals and fluffy feels.
Just like so many, I look for the path of the feel-good whenever I can. Marie Kondo is definitely onto something when she advises us to ask “Does this bring you joy?”.
That said, the path of least resistance isn’t necessarily enjoyable. When we’re between a rock and a hard place, we’ve gotta know how to emotionally regulate such that we can manoeuvre to where we can be in a more stable situation.
Knowing how to be real and honest, how to ease off expectation, and how to dwell in unconditional trust are valuable skills for such self-regulation. Tools like Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and the Four Agreements provide solid stepping stones to find those places of stability and connection.
So sure, the petals of bliss may not rain down upon our brow constantly. It might even feel like big sloppy mud rain instead. But what we can do is learn to dance through it with skill, grace and as much joy as we can conjure.
Working with people to help them develop these life skills brings me joy. And I’m learning all the time. So I’m curious, what tools do you use to self-regulate when in sticky situations? 🌿
Oh my heart - receiving this type of message is deffffinitely a heart warmer!
Presenting at events like Newkind Conference is usually a winner of a time for me. Sharing insights on topics I'm passionate about to a load of people is such a special thing.
Though, it can also feel vulnerable. What if people don't get it? What if I don't do the topic justice? Thankfully I've learned a LOT about supporting myself to show up in a good, clear way regardless.
Especially helpful for getting up in front of the crowd is having comments like this land in my inbox afterwards. Rob shared this soon after the 2020 Newkind Conference and I was totally chuffed. To feel seen and appreciated is a truly special gift. And to receive positive feedback loops like this commendation helps me to keep getting up and out in helping people be inspired to thrive together.
So thank you for sharing your love and appreciation! Something so simple as letting someone know what you think can support the ripple effect of change to spread further and further still.

Role descriptions. Boring, right? Well, maybe they’re not the most exciting part of a job or group effort. But really, they are super useful. And when done right, they bring life, focus and coordination. Without them, there can be confusion, double-up of effort, and dropped balls.
Role descriptions are kind of like having a cast for a play. You know that this character has certain qualities to express and lines to say. And that character has their own qualities and lines differentiating them from the others. Without this distinction, it wouldn’t be clear who’s doing what. People might try to say the same lines. And it would likely turn out out to be a bit of a shambles.
They can occur in official work teams, while also having relevance to your family unit and community groups. The point is that they create distinction around who is doing what.
More than anything, clear and succinct role descriptions allow for expectation management. When I know what’s expected of me in a role, and that’s the same thing you expect of me in a role, then I can go about doing my job with focus and peace-of-mind. I don’t have to concern myself about doing the task you have in your role… because I know you’re doing them. My job is to do the things I’m responsible for. I also have assurance in knowing what I have control over and what I don’t.
This transparency creates a bunch of trust and clarity. Which ripples into creating more empowered people working together with a clearer sense of purpose and peace.
There is much more to be said about role descriptions. I hope this insight brings more flow to the impact you’re making in the world.

Acceptance is such a vital life skill. It awakens a real-time self-empowerment that works with the power of the here and now. So often I see humans handing over their sense of power as they resign themselves to “the way things are”. Gosh, I have done it waaaay more times than I care to admit.
Sure, “it is what it is”. And what it is was influenced by decisions made by ourselves and others, consciously or unconsciously, allowing those events and situations to occur.
When we can reconcile ourselves to our contribution to the way things are, it gives us a chance to gather up some more of our resources and ability to influence the future “way things are”.
You gotta know, this can involve some serious grieving of when we haven’t been in our power.
This can also involve coming to terms with amount of power we DO have, and that we CAN cultivate. Sometimes this is a tragic pill to swallow, acknowledging that we weren’t supported to see and use our power through our childhood years and beyond.
Take it slow and steady. Be honest in self-reflection through journalling and stream-of-conscious writing. Self-empathy exercises can go a long way.
There is so much power latent within ALL of us - doing the work to claim it is essential for the makings of a better world. Especially one that integrates all colours, genders, love choices, life practices, ages and abilities.
If you need a hand to help you start where you are and change the ending, I can help too. I know first hand that having the support of an other to navigate these waters can be such a valuable lifeboat. HMU for an explore call.
Step-by-step, hold your focus on the world you want to see and keep making those course-corrections that cultivate it into being. I know you’re way more capable than you think.
You can feel, taste and see how your vision can bloom in the world. You are getting closer and closer to jumping all in and living your dreams. But! Where to start?
The excitement of the idea is flipping compelling. Yet all the pieces that make it so are immense and numerous. What are the next meaningful steps to help you effectively get to where your heart skips a beat?
🌿 Step One. Let your self dream it ALL. That’s right, allow the full extent of your excitement and visioning to play out and have it’s way with your body, mind and soul. Because blocking it is like trying to a stop a laugh in Grade 9 science class - it doesn’t go away, and will eventually erupt into your reality and get you in trouble.
🌿 Step Two. Get it out of your inside and into the outside. Mind-map. Draw. Write simple single words onto a page. Journal. Make voice messages to yourself. Whatever it is that helps you express your inner dreams into a somewhat objective outer experience. You don’t need to share this with anyone. Keep adding to it until you feel it’s clear enough and when you notice you’re repeating yourself.
🌿 Step Three. Tease apart all that expression from Step Two into clusters of activity and focus. What are the values you’ve expressed? Can you see your vision and mission clarifying themselves? Can you see different services and products emerging with more distinction? Let your pattern recognising intelligence help you sort and order your thoughts into clusters of information. This will help you focus your attention and not feel overwhelmed by the hugeness of it all as one big to-do.
🌿 Step Four. Pick out the next steps from each cluster. As you take in the information and insights you’ve sorted into groups, do you see any obvious actions emerging? Map them out, no matter how big or small. Clarify what wants to be done. If it seems like a big task, break-it down into smaller steps. And then go about doing them, step-by-step, piece-by-piece.
You can do it! And you will do it when you make it waaaay easier by allowing your visions to be more objective and actionable. I can’t wait to see your flowers brightening up our world.
The time is soon for Southern Hemisphere dwellers to gather up their dreams & visions, and to plant them deep into the potential of the coming Winter Solstice.
As the sun turns annually, it wraps us in a rhythm. Inward and outward. Waxing and waning.
Right now we sit on the very edge of the sun’s final waning descent. It’s darker, colder, internal. This is the signature of this period of the year. It asks us to rest, slow down, reflect and imagine.
As the creators of our own reality, it’s our responsibility to do the required work to live the life we truly desire.
By allowing our attention to be guided by the seasonal cues - e.g. Winter Solstice = inward dreamtime - we synch with a deep wisdom that all life moves by.
To do this, over the coming week you might like to have a daily practice of journaling your dreams for the year to come. Take 20 minutes to consciously sit in the soft winter sun, allowing the solar teacher and life source to illuminate what wants to grow in your life for this next cycle.
My eBook SEASONAL GOALS - A LIVING GUIDE (2019) translates and guides readers through the finer details of moving with this living map.
It’s getting all prettied up to be released as Version 2 in the coming week. The introductory price of $3.95 will be finishing with the release of this next version (psst... this means a price rise). So head over to my site (erinyoung.net) to grab your copy of Version 1 quick sticks.
Or, hang tight to grab a copy of Version 2.... which is waaaay more sexy!
And regardless, I wish you a blessed slowing, softening, allowing, receiving. This is the time to let your visions burn bright in your inner self, and set them in motion to blossom over the year to come 🌞🌿
“I need to stop abandoning myself, and ask what is it I’m really here for?” I heard a potential client share this morning.
She is navigating the realisation that her true self wants to live fully. Yet she knows she’s conditioned into playing small to fit into the rational paradigm of dominant culture.
My response: “Bravo, given that we’re self-determining beings whether we know it or not”. It’s our choice how we live our lives.
It’s our choice what ‘wood’ we place on our soul fire.
It’s our choice to do the work that inevitably most of us have gotta do to live soul-fulfilling lives.
And why the hell not? Yes, it’s work. Yes, it’s uncomfortable. But so is trying to fit into a world that doesn’t quite stoke your true calling.
I’m helping people make these changes in their lives and TOTALLY feeling blessed for the opportunity. If you wanna jump on board the TRUE SELF train, hit me up to explore how my coaching packages can help you stop abandoning yourself and live your best life 🌿
Have you noticed how much energy, motivation and excitement you can have when your creative expression is freely activated? Oh boy, I have recently... and it’s been thrilling. And also surprising how it can ‘switch on’ suddenly, given the right conditions. Making me realise how much it wasn’t on before.
Creative energy is one of humanity’s most renewable resources. It can be dulled and dormant, yes. But never will our species lose the drive to create.
Question is: what part of your intelligence/s does your creativity activate when rolling in it’s sweet spot? 👇🏼👇🏽👇🏾
Every year or so I hang this dressing gown around my topless body and have a probing breast exam by good doctors and quality equipment. My dear mum made her way through breast cancer in her early 30’s and lives to tell the tale... which is why I’ve gotta do this.
It’s always a little strange being in a room of dressing gowned, mostly older, women. And it’s usually a bit of a life check-in moment for me.
Today I felt the experience of ‘woman’ in a patriarchal, post-feminist reality. In the facial expressions of those other women I see concern, fear, dedication, holding of other people’s pain, holding of their own pain. There’s so much subtle energy a woman is woven to feel and experience. I feel it in that room.
The other thing I experienced today was the total whiteness of the people in that clinic. It’s a place of complete privilege. It’s not a cheap exercise. Every person was white skinned. And yet there are likely many people of colour who don’t get into that room for the careful examination I experienced today but who really need it.
I don’t know what this realisation will precipitate. But I do know that in a context of major upheaval around deep systemic racial injustice, it has to precipitate something constructive. I care for people of colour dearly, and yet I ride my priviledge a little too much without fair share of opportunity. Priviledge = responsibility. Time to uplevel.
That all said, deeply grateful I could be tested and that it was all clear 🌿
